Caring for your batiks (and all quilting and sewing fabric) is very important. Synthrapol is the product I use almost 99% of the time when pre-washing batiks.
Use one or more teaspoons in your washing machine - remember - this is a soap so don't go overboard (seriously!). Use warm wash and cool rinse with a gentle cycle. Shake out the fabric and toss it in the dryer.
Use this product once prior to cutting the fabric. Unlike Retayne, Synthrapol can be used to correct dye transfer after a quilt or garment has been constructed.
